You are probably over washing your face. Try a gentle cleanser like Cerave for oily skin. There are many different kinds of gentle cleansers. i promise if you do that, your oil problem will get better.
I still have and had terrible skin (if that makes sense, but it is improved). Yes, you are probably overly clean, are you taking 2x hot showers? There's a wealth of science out there on the beneficial aspects of the microbiome fkubd on your skin that you damage by washing too much. What really helped me get rid of my seborrheic dermatits (which is aggravated by oily skin ) was simply washing less and cutting out soap. Sounds gross but you can just wash your nether regions and pits everyday so you don't smell. Also, eating healthy and exercising helps. Remember, the beauty care Industry wants you to think you constantly need to shower and that social stigma should be attached to not showering constantly. People never even used to shower everyday until after WW2, yet humans have coevolved with bacteria for hundreds and thousands of years. It was pretty embarrassing to constantly have terrible, oily and flaky skin from seborrhea, because I was extremely clean and people automatically think dander etc means you're dirty. Ironically one of the best choices I've ever made for my overall health and appearance was simply to use much less soap.
Certainly there could be things like hormone issues involved. See your doc as well.
I agree with Meyerland - use a gentle cleanser and don't over-wash. Use tepid or warm water, never hot on your face. Don't use alcohol-based anything on your face, that strips the oil and encourages your skin to produce more. You can use womens' facial cleansers, nothing wrong with that and most of them have gender-neutral scents. I've been using Clarins cleansing milk, it's relatively inexpensive (compared to other department store brands like Mac and Dior), does what it needs to do without leaving a film or too-tight skin, and I like the light scent.
Wash gently with Noxzema and apply a small amount after patting your face dry and your problem should be gone. It works beautifully without over-drying.
I always like using aloe vera if I have skin problem. Meanwhile it balance oil and water in your skin, try to cover some aloe vera on your face when you sleep see how it work the next day.
Don't use anything other than a mild cleanser. Try that and see if it improves. Stripping the skin of its protective layer increases the oil production and irritation.
