Wearing three-piece suits every day is a pain in the ass. When it's hot outside you're miserable, you have to get them drycleaned, they're expensive, they put form over function and who needs an additional headache every damn day? I've noticed that the men who have decided to wear nice suits every day when they don't have to and don't benefit from doing so are pretentious tools. And it's not like women are still dressing like it's the 1940s so why should men?

LOVE a well dressed man! I worked in the Maintenance Engineering dept at one of the Tunica casinos. I loved seeing the pit bosses dressed in suits and ties. Of course, it helps if there's crisp air conditioning!

Guys, don't be afraid to wear a nice suit and tie! Makes you look great!

I like the workingman's look of the turn of the century...flat caps, mustaches, tight waistcoat or vest over shirt.

I love this look. Watch the detective who comes strolling along at minute mark 11:16 (I have the video cued to that point).

Bowler hat, mustache, cigar, tight vest, cravat, dark suit. From the jaunty angle of his cigar and hat you know he is no doubt on the way to the saloon, pool hall, the racetrack or the whorehouse; there to drink a schooner of beer, place a bet, pistol whip an informant or possibly all three. One foot of this Pinkerton is obviously deep in the classic 19th century Wild West, but as will be seen later he's packing a 1911 .45 automatic. The men's suits of the time had to be made of much sturdier material than one gets nowadays, to withstand all the running, jumping, pratfalls and what not.

As I once heard it WWII was the reason for hats. Rationing cut the unnecessary use of fabric for new hats among the civilian population on the home front. And returning soldiers celebrating their freedom from a Sergeant jumping on them for not wearing a hat stopped wearing them when they were discharged and returned home. Move forward a decade after young dads had stopped and the by the next generation they were almost entirely gone.

I'd actually think that is better than many places where people are wearing shorts, tee ****s and sandals. The breakdown of societal standards in this country started in the 1960's and have been on the decline in many areas ever since.

This is an irksome point for me. Middle-aged men dressing like adolescents. Once upon a time, adolescents aspired to dress like adult men.

I suspect that the current aspirations of many men to dress like adolescents is a tell for other male social issues as well.

But this is not at all universal--there are still a lot of adult males who prefer even in casual circumstances to dress like an adult male.

This seems to be a fairly common view from mature-minded women (which includes my Millennial daughter).

It died off when the rise of feminism killed off chivalry, single income families, raising children with morals and the middle class in general.

Hats are cool. The "pork pie" hats the hipsters are wearing these days, not so much.
