I have 10+ tattoos, nose ring, navel ring and a tongue ring. I've had all these since high school, and Its been eight years since I graduated. From a small farming town. I have very traditional moral beliefs and the furthest thing from trashy. However, if your willing to label me as trash simply due to my appearance, then I guess I will just keep trashing on.,
To each his own. I don't think they're trashy, but I'd never get one because it just seems too painful. Even more painful then my girls. And how does it heal? My girls took over 1 year to heal.

Honestly, it didn't hurt that bad. I found my nose piercing to be more painful. The only downside to my tongue piercing was that I couldn't speak for about two weeks. Within a month, it was fully healed. Fastest healing piercing to date.
I know a guy who has one and I never knew he had it until we became closer friends. Some people are always sticking it out and letting it be known they have one. He had no speech impediment what so ever.
I have a nephew whose fiance' has one and I see it all the time..... =/
So my answer is both. With him it wasn't. With her it is.
They are the dumbest idea anyone ever had. What a germ-ladden place to have a ring installed! A tiny bling-bling stud on the side of the nose or a small ring at the eyebrow doesn't bother me at all.
Everyone has bit their tongue at some point. It hurts like HELL!
I CAN'T IMAGINE THE OUCHIE when a person gets a ring pierced through their tongue... ON PURPOSE? Just craziness in the name of "I can do what I want with my own body, where I want it -fashions".

Being mislabeled like that has consequences.
And the question is: Why do you go for that look if you know is associated with the word trash?
I think any body piercings other than one hole in each earlobe look trashy.
