I like tankinis which are sold in separate pieces and that worked for me.

Very cute bathing suit BUT I could only see someone with maybe an A cup wearing this!

JADE - Was it easy to order and receive product from Bravissimo since they are in the UK? How true to size are they? My daughter (22) has a hard time finding bikini tops to fit. She is at least a 34DD, probably even bigger now since this was at a fitting when she was in her teens, but is tiny everywhere else. Even the Victoria Secrets bra size bikini tops have her bubbling out Wish there were stores here wear she could try them on! So tired of doing internet orders that usually have to be shipped back!

I am now in the process of buying a new swimsuit for summer. I decided that for the first time, I am going to have a custom suit made. I am a very busty woman, average weight but short, with stubborn saddlebags that I've had all my adult life despite doing endless rounds of cardio, weight training, and eating a consistently clean diet. Thus, swimsuits in the store never fit correctly, as I take a much larger top than bottoms.

I'd like to know about fellow CD posters' swimsuit shopping experiences. Have any of you had a custom suit made? How have you determined what style of suit flatters you most? Can you find the perfect swimsuit in the store?

I just went on Etsy and ordered a custom swimsuit in my exact size, style, and color I preferred for only $100! The awesome thing about it is, not only will it fit perfectly, it has a little ruched skirt to hide the saddlebags plus the underwire bra top that is a must for ladies who are top heavy like myself. Hopefully I can get years of wear out of this suit
Just in case it doesn't fit perfectly, you my try to find a bra boutique in your area that deals with brands like Freya, Panache, etc. These companies make products designed for larger busted women and will make it easier for you to mix and match. It will also give you the chance to find out what your true size is. Not saying that you don't know, but it is all to common for people to "stop" at DD because that is what is usually commercially available at most stores. I don't think of DD as being very busty, but it is a common size because of the way most stores work. You may find out you are a bigger cup and smaller band as it usually turns out and because of that the off the rack suits might not fit or support you like you want, but one from the specialty makers I mentioned above might be a much better choice and give you more confidence while you're wearing it.

You are right about the hard part though, my wife lost some weight recently and was very excited about swimsuit season this year and I got the lucky honor to handle the kids while she tried on a dozen or so suits. She is a 34G now and most department store stuff is hit or miss, but she eventually found a couple she likes that fit well.

Bravissimo ships fast, but the only drawback is you need to return to the UK, and return shipping isn't free from the US. So I stick with brands I know well most of the time, and my sizing I know. Just so I don't have to pay a lot to return.

So try Figleaves - Luxury Lingerie & Swimwear For Women & Men instead (they have a lot of brand crossover, but bravissimo has a house brand, and the have a US returns address). Easier returns!

I bet your daughter is actually in the wrong bra size. Most women are wearing a band that is too big and a cup that is too small. For reference, I'm a UK 34H at the moment (10 or 15 pounds lighter puts me in a 32 band). You can take a look at my profile, to see a pic of me, I think there is a close enough one so you can see how wide I am on top. I bet your daughter should really be sized somewhere around 28G or an even smaller band! Victoria's Secret puts bustier ladies in the wrong size by moving them up in the band/cup into a size that they carry.

If your daughter is tiny on top, she definitely shouldn't need a band larger than a 32!

Also, UK bra sizing is a little different than american sizing. The american cups are smaller. My UK size is 34H, and US size I believe is 34K. I can't think of a single Americna brand that actually fits me anyway, all the cups are too small.

Leaving you with poor support, and perhaps falling out of the cup by the end of the day! This happened to me, I was wearing a band 6 or 8 inches too big for years! Then I got resized (at an indie lingerie shop) and it was amazing! I instantly lost 10 pounds, and my bras gave me plenty of support. I even found strapless bras that stayed up and gave me support! You can get sized at Nordstroms if you have one nearby, they generally do a decent job and carry a pretty decent selection of sizes, provided you are under an H!

If Nordies isn't available, or you want to get a ball park size, try this website here. These tips are good, and following them, I have measured myself into the right size.
Thin and Curvy: How to measure your bra size, the correct way!

Also, I find the bra sized swim tops do have some leeway (you can go up or down a band and the cups are extra stretchy), but for me, getting a bra sized swimsuit did wonders! It took me a little bit to take the plunge, and I am happy I did. I previously had one of those lands end DD suits, and it was actually too small in the cup! No support at all. And even now, I have a suit that is too big in the band, and the support is much better than the ones I had before! My newest tankini is like wearing a regular well fitted bra! It is awesome!

Anyway, back on to my bra fitting rant! For women who are bustier, many of us are really wearing the wrong size. I hope your daughter isn't "afraid" of wearing a cup larger than DD. It doesn't mean she is "fat" or "a porn star" or anything else. There is a lot of bra sized stigma and it keeps a lot of women from finding the proper support and well fitting bras!

This brand aims at 20-somethings and has really cute bras and swimwear that gives you good support and good cleavage!
Cleo By Panache Bra At HerRoom

I have the blue/purple animal print bra on the page. It is one of my faves! I should get another while it is on sale.

100% agreed! I am a little bustier than your wife! In the horrible H cup purgatory. I gained like 10 pounds which makes bra shopping easier, since I am a 34H instead of 32HH/J. Freya is my favorite brand. Panache is hit or miss for me, as is Curvy Kate, but I have a very short torso. Works better for people with longer torsos I think.

Tell your wife to also check out Ewa Michalak. Just got a bra from that brand and it was awesome!!!! They are in a few online stores, and a local bra shop for me.

I will do that. Thanks for the tip. I wish she was as enthusiastic about it as you are about the larger UK cup sizing system, but at least she is now happier that she has lost weight and doesn't need 38/40/42 bands (which were really always too big, but what typical dept stores would try to put her in) or even 36 bands any more (which is what the boutiques would measure her at). And I agree, seems like 34 or 36 is definitely the "sweet spot" of the market for styles and availability. She did reach a J cup post pregnancy but wasn't feeling very pretty at that point (because of her body weight, not breast size) so we never got to do any "cute" bra shopping at that size - but there are a lot of nice things to choose from now as a 34G size 10ish category.
