People who will eat only certain things prepared certain ways or at certain times and will not deviate from this pattern no matter what (another "ex" story, and I will not go into it).
If you called someone high maintenance to their face many would not see that as a positive comment.
To me there is a difference in a person taking care of themselves and putting effort into their appearance and being high maintenance.

Had a co-worker that was really quite proud of herself being labeled high maintenance... that was until her husband filed for divorce.
She enjoyed telling tales of how she could make him wait or cater to her every desire...
Girls with fake tans, nails , extensions and fake lashes...high maintenance..I have a cousin who doe all that and was shocked at what she spends to maintain her "look". Men that are into fake tans, personal trainers (do some yard work instead), latest cars and lectronic gadgets and plastic surgery junkies classify as high maintenance. It's a choice!
My wife refuses to even consider dollar store bra's.
That's my definition of high maintenance.
