I've always liked colors like brown & tan next to my face but now at 62, I think it ages me. Are brown shades unflattering to older complexions? Any other ladies changes their color choices as they get older?
I agree with you in general about this, and I'm 10 years younger. If you love those colors why not try a cousin of theirs in the color family? How about champagne beige, winter white? With a little blush and lip color an older woman wearing these colors can look vibrant and attractive. As I've gotten older, I've tried to move away from colors that make my now-lighter complexion look "washed out" like, muddy browns, olive green. It's just too much of a "fight" to look good in these colors worn next to your face. I loved these colors growing up. The last time they loved me back was in my 30s.
I agree about tan. I don't think the color flatters me at all due to complexion, unless if I am wearing a colorful scarf around my neck, or a vest. So far, black, brown, and olive still looks good, but I do prefer to wear a little more makeup with those colors (I'm 56).
You can't generalize. It completely depends on your complexion/coloring/hair/eyes. However, it is true that our coloring changes as we age, so you should re-assess your colors over time.
My mother was quite fair in coloring, and looked very good in brown/tan as she aged. I forget how that system of determining your optimal color scheme works, but she was one of these "summer" type colorings I think... needs "warm" colors...She was shocked when someone complemented her on a brown outfit she was wearing, thinking that was a dull color. But in fact it made her face/eyes pop.
So she encouraged me to start trying tans/browns. For me, it totally fell flat. I have darker features with more contrast, and I need cooler jewel tones, which really enhance my skin and make me look healthy. Neutrals like tans/browns/olive make me look sickly.
I'm not sure. I am 40 and I just never thought I looked good in any color of brown. It seems to make my skin look yellow and just make me look pretty blah.
It depends on her coloring (skintone, hair color, eye color).
Brown and tan look great on a redheads, or someone with a warm skintone, honey brown hair, and dark eyes like Jennifer Lopez.
