Not all women would have low-hanging breasts if they didn't wear a bra, though plenty would. If all the bras disappeared, we'd be reminded that women's breasts are very variable and individual--plenty of women don't even have a matching pair. It would certainly be interesting if the "new style" was to agree that natural breasts are acceptable, however they look.
Even in cultures where women didn't usually cover the breasts, when doing certain tasks where it interfered or caused pain they wrapped them. I think the male researches should grow a pair and see what they think.
Usually I am not on this forum, but I stumbled upon this thread on the overview page and thought, gee, this sounds interesting
I agree, girls should never even start to wear bras, so they won't need them later on, either. Seems like one of those odd female automatisms like wearing high heels, make-up and what not...
With all those flat women these days I have always wondered what the bra is supposed to do, other than merely hide something that is barely present in the first place
You may not "get it" because you are a man (and I will assume that you don't have breasts) but the purpose of bras is to 1)support the breasts (i.e. prevent them from allowing gravity to grab 'em and pull them down towards our knees) and 2) to provide more modest coverage under clothing to prevent nipple exposure.
And women with small breasts can begin to droop the same as larger breasted women who don't wear bras. So until I hear men singing the praises of saggy boobies I will continue to be avec brassiere.
It has nothing to do with age. Women with small boobs don't need a bra. I have friend in their 40's and 50's who have never owned a bra. It's an unnecessary expense for some women.
I'm not exactly going to "sing the praises of saggy boobies" but if a woman of whatever age or size feels OK with natural ones, then that's fine. We have this fetish about all breasts being lifted up to mid-chest level, but I don't see the logic behind it. My attitude is there are plenty of real problems in the world, so let's have the boundary of what we call acceptable made as wide as possible.
Why "in a few years"? Women with low-hanging breasts will have them at whatever level they hang to, as soon as they take their bra off. And that level will generally be lower over time, it's just biology at work.
Let's not hear that old wives' tale (which some young wives may believe too) that bras somehow preserve the shape of a woman's breasts even when they aren't being worn!
I disagree many women find after childbirth or losing lots of weight that their boobs become more saggy and loose...
I found that my bra size grew by two after my son. I expected it to fade but it didn't. I actually had to buy new clothes since some were too tight. Cleavage aside, I think I'd have been happy if they'd stayed the same.
