I think your wrong about earlier decades before 1920 not being feminine fashion wise.
I think the best period for fashion and beauty was 1890 to 1910. I love the corset style dresses with the long hobble skirts, the shirts and coats. I loved the hair too. I guess its popularized by punok and emo now.
Then again,I think the 80s had the most beautiful people too. I looked at old pics of the cast of Dynasty and Dallas and I loved the clothes and the wild hair.
Seemed like a fun decade to be an adult. I was a child then.
80s..I loved seeing women with big hair, heavy makeup, and sexy outfits and shoes,,,it was a decade of glam.Another great thing about the 80s is that it was the final decade before the tattoo craze took over.

Amen. It's kinda amazing, how rare tattoos were in the 80s. These days, close to half of the people under 30 are inked it seems. Sorry to anyone with tattoos, I'm sure there are plenty of them among us but I find them ugly looking, especially on women.
This is a somewhat ambiguous question. Styles change, but it's doubtful that the number of attractive people changes from decade to decade. There are more ethnic types to choose from today (in the US); that may translate into there being more "hotties" today than in the past for some. It's debatable whether we are healthier today thank the past, but if we are, that might tend to make the average person better looking. But with all the talk about an obesity epidemic today that did not exist in the past, it's doubtful we are healthier today.
I think media celebs have gotten 'hotter' as time has gone on. In the first half of the 20th century, the prudish influence of the Victorian era was still apparent in most media images. Many of the starlets of the 20s and 30s and 40s strike me as being only modestly attractive by today's standards. I suspect it may have been considered inappropriately 'suggestive' to showcase a 'real hottie'. They all seem rather plump and plain to me.
The first star that seems to me to be genuinely 'hot' would probably be Marylin Monroe; perhaps that's why she was so iconic? But even she is relatively dull by today's standards.
The 1970s was an awkward phase in terms of style. The clothes and hair were incredibly cheesy, though this period was worse for men than for woman (bushy sideburns, leisure suits, huge ties and suit collars - ick!).
The 80s saw a radical improvement over 70s kitsch, but not without unhealthy amounts of cheese (and too much neon).
From the 90s on, I think people in general look a lot better, but the past three decades (i.e. 90s, 00s, and now 10s) don't seem to have any identifiable 'look' to them; sometimes it takes a long time before the distinguishable characteristics of a decade become apparent. That said, I think nevertheless that people look better, in general today, than at any time in the past.

This statement is quite true, for me anyway. It seems that today we have more exposure to ethnic and ethnically mixed people. It's definitely added to the pool of attractive people of the current era.
The late 1930s to the early 1960s. The way people dressed and looked went downhill after the mid 60s and was the worst in the 1970s and 80s, but has improved slightly in the past few years.
There is always so much hate for tattoos on this forum
For me, it would be right now. We can take all of the style from decades past and wear basically what we want to, which I love. Sometimes I go out in a 50 style pin up dress with full face of makeup and my hair done up, and sometimes I can go out in jeans and a band tshirt with well worn chucks I really like the fact that I can look how I want without the pitchfork mob coming out and demanding that I conform to societal standards THEY deem appropriate.
Except on CD of course.
