Can anybody explain to me why this Victorinox watch costs $200 more than the comparable Wenger? I mean, the Vic seems nicer, but is it $200 nicer?

Victorinox owns Wenger now, they bought them out. The same for their pocket knives.

I'm aware of that. Just like Infinity makes Nissan and Acura makes Honda - it doesn't mean they're the same product.

Mineral crystal on the Wenger, sapphire on the Victorinox. That should only be about $50-75 difference, though. The movements might be different, differences in warranty, etc.

Who knows?

No, actually they aren't, like you said. I've always thought Victorinox was better quality. Something about the Wenger isn't quite up to snuff compared to the Victorinox. If you hold both in your hand at the same time you can tell a difference.

I've been taken in by both brand names to buy (damn junk!) their watches because I like their pocket knives. The watches are just plain junk when compared to their quality knives.

Save yer money and buy a good watch.

I actually have one of each; one I bought and one was a gift after working 15 years (I think is was for 15) years here at the same company. Have owned both for 10 years and they've been great watches. Can't remember which is the Victorinox and which is the Wenger without looking...

Victorinox still makes some of the best all purpose pocket knives in the world with their Swiss Army.

Victorinox is more a classic watch style company; Wenger is a modern style; Victorinox has automatics; Wenger hasn't made one in 5 years; As for eye catchers you are probably better off with a Wenger watch; dollar for dollar comparable features and styles you'll get more for your money with Wenger; when you compare top of the line to top of the line - you will see what I mean for these differences.

I have owned Wenger watches since the 90's; the watch makers I take them to for batteries have commented that they are good, well made watches...
