My granddaughter is getting married in Feb. I have a black, navy blue and brown suit in my closet. Which color would appropriate? My son, FOB, needs ideas as well.
Brown suit is very dull IMO and navy is beautiful but can be too business-like.
If I were at a wedding and have to choose between black and navy suits, I would definitely wear black but with a bright colour blouseor black with somber colour blouse but bright accessories (dressy hat, scarf, large brooch, or chunky necklace) To me, a suit should serve as a mute background so something else with beautiful and contrast colour can be the central point.
Here's another vote for Navy blue with Ol' Wanderer's suggestion of a bright blouse and/or accessories. Black and brown are too somber for a wedding. Navy blue is classic and appropriate for any occasion.

^^Is it Winter (cold) where the wedding will be held? Evening or earlier?
Here I would go with the brown. The others seem too severe or business-like.
I'd wear a pastel or cream blouse & a tonal hat, a long soft scarf around the neck or a satin belt on the jacket depending on the cut & your style & figure. Gloves are appropriate for the mother of the bride. Plan to incorporate your flowers so they don't look like a decal
I would buy a good pair of shoes, tonal satin or patent leather in the spirit of the hat.
Congratulations, I'm sure you will look radiant no matter what you wear!
