What in the world are you talking about? I simply asked why wearing a mink coat is necessarily pretentious. Nobody's arguing anything. My question is suitable for this thread and has no place in the P&OC forum. Answer it or don't.

Gore-tex is warmer than fur.

Product Details - mink long coat
I think it might work for special occasions but probably not too versatile as daily wear... If you are set on a fur coat I think a shorter piece might be more versatile.

I'm saying this as nicely as I can. Really. I'd give this advice to any college student.

Do you plan on sitting with your fellow students, having a cup of coffee late in the evening and talking about the state of the world? Do not wear that coat. Especially if you start talking about your "working roots". They will annihilate you.

It looks exactly like my plush bathrobe!!!

The model looks like she was swallowed whole by it....

No way, no how, not for a million dollars would I wear that coat...

Look up "North Face", they have really nice gear, for all seasons and styles.

Beautiful coat, but it appears wholly inappropriate for someone who is in school IMO. Gives the impression that you may not be a serious student.

It would look better on the animals it came from. Unless you are an Inuit ( or similar aboriginal populations) I can't really see the justification for fur.

Fur on a college student? Are you trying to re-enact "Sex and The City" or study?
texantoyankee has the right word - "declasse"
I would say that people over 70 wear fur in NY. Not sure where you are going to college but that ostentatious coat will be sure to aggravate quite of your class mates and professors. Aside from being offensive to many sophisticated people, you will look like ghetto trash, or worse a call girl.
I am originally from NY and this is not normal attire for a college student. In NYC or anywhere.

I would never wear fur for ethical reasons, but if you must, I would go with a vintage coat. Try Trash and Vaudeville on St.Mark's Pl in the East Village.

That coat will make you look like Carmella Soprano.
