It just seems to have all the same stuff as Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Express, etc. All those stores are great but now they are all catering to the same demographic.
Talbots used to have nice stuff for us, slightly older, traditional clothes types. Remember, their slogan was "Talbots is classic". But now it's filled with all this trendy stuff.
And, the store I went into was filled with male sales clerks following me around telling me how marvelous I'd look in all this stuff designed for 20 year olds! Get real.
Oh, well, at least Brooks Brothers has increased their women's section.
I just hate the cropped pants with high heeled boots. I'm sure I'd wear those around here..not.
However, Talbots is still my favorite go-to store because it has such a good variety of sizes..petite to tall to plus to regular misses...my bottom needs a 14W and my top a regular size, so I can get an outfit that fits.... A few years ago they changed from classic boring clothing to more fashion forward, and then they reverted back because their customers wanted the classics. I think there's a happy medium and I'm glad they're trying some new looks.
"All those stores are great but now they are all catering to the same demographic. " All the stores carry the same stuff, thanks to the "corporate-ing" of retail by making all the stores owned by holding companies... I used to like the smaller family owned department stores. At least you could find something to wear that you didn't see EVERYONE wearing. There are so many I miss....
Yeah; there is no difference nowadays between The Limited, Ann Taylor, and Banana Republic except who is having a sale that week and who has my size in what I want. That's it. Other than that they are pretty much the same store.

That's my point: Talbots used to have a specific target and, apparently, they've decided to throw us out with the bath water.
I guess Gardener34 is right, it's all about the "corporate-ing". I just wonder why they've continued down the wrong road when their profits have tanked (even before the recession). They got rid of the old CEO but I think they have tainted their brand.
If they wanted to compete with Limited, Ann Taylor et al, why didn't they just increase their J.Jill spin-off instead of messing up Talbots.
