The difference between Canada and Europe, however, might be that most of Europe is inhabited, while much of Canada is either barely inhabited or uninhabitable.
Australia has an even lower population density than Canada, and a few times I've seen European backpackers and tourists having real difficulty dealing with being in really remote places or wilderness areas. For some it seems to be a pretty challenging experience.
