Same in England (more so in the cities), the traditional independent pubs are either closing, getting bought out by big chains and selling their souls or going upmarket, serving fancy foods and losing their character. Such a shame.
Its bars all over, not just Irish bars. Its what happens when you have a crap Goverment whos only solution to everything is to raise taxes on everything until people cant afford it.

Nope, its competition from supermarkets that is doing it. You know, the free market.
It has been happening for years ... nothing new here. Areas change and pubs change to meet the new demographics. Where I grew up, in Glasgow, some of the old pubs are still there but have completely changed their character because the customers are different now. For example, the public bar is no longer men only and mainly standing. People don't drink just pints but more "sophisticated" cocktails, people like to eat at the pub. People often go to the pub to watch sports, etc. etc.
Good riddance. I wouldn't care if all the bars in the world went bye bye.
Blasphemer!!!
