Our american friend married a danish woman.After 7 years they divorced in her country.Is the divorce recognized in Usa?He is back to California.

I know someone who got married in Colombia while they were arranging a divorce in the US. He got away with it because "Colombian marriages don't count" I guess. I don't know if the same is true of Denmark and divorce.

Marriage and divorce are largely state matters in the U.S., so the question should be put to a lawyer in California. It really doesn't matter if New York State, for example might recognize a Danish divorce, others states may not.

Validity of a foreign divorce may also depend upon whether at least one of the partners was living in the country granting the divorce at the time that it was granted, and whether both parties received notice that such an action was pending, etc.
