Young people have been glorifying celebrities forever. This is nothing new. The only difference is that now celebrities are more accessible because of the internet and social media. That's not going away. So you'd better get used to it.
This isn't just a young person thing. Older people have also helped with celebrity culture. They often dismiss Elvis, Chuck Berry's, Beatles (later years), Stones, Ozzys, Ramones, Johnny Rottens, Rob Halfords, Motley Crues, Metallicas, Public Enemy's, Ice-Ts, NWAs, Tupacs, Snoop Doggs, Notorious B.I.G.'s, Jay-Zs, Eminems, Kanyes, etc. Often times this pushes their children more to the celebrities they are trying to shield them from. Other times, they just gossip about it.
As for today's "influencers," there are a number of immature idiots like the Paul brothers. Those two idiots should be thrown in jail for some of their antics. 6ix9ine is a total scumbag. Cardi B isn't the greatest. Jeffery Starr and James Charles aren't exactly the best role models either...
OP, have you really never heard of the Beatles? Elvis Presley? Frank Sinatra? Rudolph Valentino? Caruso? Liszt? Paganini? Mozart? Cellini? I expect Demosthenes had groupies.
I expected more from gen z because of the internet and their predisposition for mocking established institutions.
They have failed me by turning internet personalities into a Hollywood like object that people worship.

I'm gonna give you a word of wisdom, if you didn't realize the internet brings out both the best and the worst in you, you don't know how it works enough... I'm gen Y and I think a number of these influencers are stupid and I myself have celebrity glorifying. I mean I love Jon Bon Jovi for his music and humanitarian efforts, The Rock is a guy I have always loved, Chris Jericho can talk me into nearly anything but his $50 brut and his cruises, I'm sure I copied fashion choices from 90's/2000's skaters and punks too...
If they've failed you then what were you thinking you deserved?
