A kind of Hall of Shame - for newspaper articles (yes, Virginia, there are still those old snail-mail print dinosaurs roaming the land, listlessly looking for new income streams, trying desperately to figure out a way to make bucks on the 'Net - failing & flailing miserably, thus far. Look for a new set of mergers & acquisitions, terminating in maybe one big 'paper per coast, one in the North, one in the South. Objects in mirror may be closer than they appear, you may have other rights, which vary from state to state.)

A recent Las Cruces Sun-News editorial is quoted on the infighting between the NM Ed. Dept. & the Las Cruces school board - para 4, line 4:

" ... the duly elected board of the Las Cruces Pubic Schools."

Now, this is an old chestnut, & while it's probably medically correct to so characterize the schools, it lacks a certain decorum, as in scaring the horses unnecessarily. I haven't tracked down where the error crept in - @ the Las Cruces paper or afterwards, in quoting it. Given the electronic nature of most type setting, I suspect the error set in there in Las Cruces.

However that falls out, whoever's in charge of editorials there (a charitable assumption, of course) needs to run their syntax checker as well as the spell checker. This is the kind (or perhaps unkind) of unforced error that undermines & negates whatever good may have otherwise accrued from their words of wisdom from the mountaintop.

If you have a favorite similar faux pas, please attach it here. If the 'papers are going to wrap themselves in the free press protection of the Constitution, & then regale & revile us with the bedroom farces of the Kardashians, shock jocks & jockettes of all persuasions, then I think they should @ least entertain us with their half-literate scribblings.

A whole lot of effort went into a lengthy post about a dropped "l". Wow.
