we are a small state that has never had much influence in the national political scene, so when one of our own wins the presidency it is a big deal. people here are very proud of obama and rightly so. as hey holiday pointed out, hawaii is a much different place than other states. yep diamond head would have to explode for that to change
Considering there will be a bruising primary battle between the two democrats, those voters who lose that primary might feel a bit disenchanted and not come out to vote.
Case is a moderate dem and Hana is very liberal.
You can't automatically assume that the dem votes go to whoever wins the dem primary.
Meanwhile, republican "turnout" was very good for this race and you can guarantee it will be even better come November.
Take the "obama" factor out of the race (he won't be on the ballot, but his policies sure will) and he might have a chance.
Gore won with 55% and Kerry with 53%.
Gore won it 55-39 (Nader did quite well in the district). Dijou got 39.5% of the vote, that is it. If he was somwhere in the mid to upper 40's he might have a chance of pulling it out, but he needs a large amount of Case's voters on Hanbusa's voters and that sure as hell isn't going to happen.

Why not?
I think Djou focusing on higher taxes, bigger government and out of control spending will resonant even with Hawaii voters.

Where is he going to get the support from?? It looks like Hanabusa is the favorite for the Dem nomination. How exactly is Dijou going to get a large chunk of Case's union voters?? If Case is the nominee how exactly is Dijou going to appeal to her liberal supporters??

Some of those more moderate Case voters might be lured to Djou.
We'll just have to see, but as it stands now, Djou and the GOP had a big victory in Hawaii, whether the Left wants to admit it or not.
of course it will, that is a no brainer, not to mention all poloticians always say that, the same as all sports teams say the game or series will be tough.
