"[Obama] also got 52 percent of a new polling category — those making over $200,000 a year who were no longer among the top 1 percent of earners, as they had been in past elections, but were now the top 6 per cent."

These are the very people who Obama told would get tax increases under his plan, and who would get tax cuts under McCain. How could Obama get a majority of their votes?

Are they stupid?

Or do they just realize what party has been in charge when EVERYONE has done better?

Maybe money is not their main interest, even though they make a good salary? Maybe they liked his other ideas.

When McCain was campaigning, he was saying one time that "this is about where your money goes", and I thought "no, it's not - it's about how I think about life and how we look at our fellow citizens, and how we present ourselves in the world". Maybe they thought about it that way.

I just repped both of you! A lot of us care for our COUNTRY FIRST, and realize that there is a price to be paid for our democracy.

Our local "Campaign For Change" office had kind of a "bi-modal" make up to it. One half college kids and recent grads (with lots of debt) and one half "old f**ts" my age who know, in some of their cases that their taxes would go up. And the preponderance of the boomer guys, VIET NAM ERA VETS.

I agree with the above, plus, it's not like Obama wants to re-institute the 95% bracket! The tax raise he's talking about will be minimal. Plus, some of the "players" will just figure out more deductions to take.

Maybe because some people are as self-centered as some folks.

Rich people hire accountants and tax attorneys to find places to hide their money from the government. It's the middle class that can't afford that luxury.

The statistics in that article tell me people are doing much better now than they were in past elections, which refutes the whole concept that they are doing worse since Bush has been in office. Those making over $100,000 has risen from 9% of the electorate to 25% and the percentage of the working poor has decreased. It will be interesing to see what the percentages are in four years.

Well, obviously over a period of 8 years, some of that is due to inflation. I have not seen any statitistics about a decline in the number of "working poor". Perhaps you could supply a link.
