John McCain escalated his attacks on Obama's leadership credentials Tuesday by endorsing a series of rhyming Burma-Shave-style billboards that accuse the Democratic presidential candidate of being out of touch with the current political landscape. "Barack Is Sipping/Fine Champagne/While U.S. Jobs/Go Down The Drain/ McCain '08," read the five consecutive 2-by-5-foot bright red wooden signs erected along a 1.5-mile stretch of South Dakota highway, emulating an advertising medium first popularized by the Burma-Vita Company in 1926 to sell brushless shaving cream.
Negative campaigning HAS worked in the past (remember Swift Boat?), but the outright falsehoods perpetuated through this type of activity have become much better recognized, in our current political campaign. This, I think, is just another reason why Senator Obama is polling so much stronger than Senator McCain. Obama was prepared for this type of negative publicity, and has countered it on every front, quite consistently. It is to his credit, however that all of the claims that he (and the DNC) are making about McCain, and that might appear "negative" are actually backed up with real facts, rather than unsubstanciated rumors. (voting records, etc., CAN be checked for accuracy). Obama / Biden '08
Wow, McCain's camp is getting extremely desperate!
They should really "can" the personal attacks at this point. When polls show Obama ahead 300+ electorates to McCain's 150 or so, it's time for McCain's camp to face reality--all signs point to an Obama victory.
McCain should regain some class in these final stages of the campaign, and go back to his Senator's job in peace.
LOL, I think it's funny that you had to tell us it's satire. Because the GOP's getting so desparate it's actually believable...
