You can read more about it here:

The Associated Press: Colin Powell endorses Barack Obama for president

Considering Colin Powell is one of the most respected men in the U.S.,
According to whom? Highly questionable. He was a respected military man. Not necessarily a highly respected politician.

Depends on what he is being asked to give an opinion on. In this case, totally irrelevant. Biden said he didn't think Obama was ready.

Oh, really? Not any Republicans that I'm aware of. Can you name some?

Again, provide the evidence.

Personally, I couldn't care less what Colin Powel thinks about Sarah Palin. Powel turned out to be a huge disappointment as a politician and statesman. He's definitely better suited to a military job.

Why the Powell Endorsement (Could) Matter - The Fix

Quote:
2. The Most Popular Man in America? Powell, unlike almost no other official with ties to the Bush Administration, has retained remarkable popularity ratings. In an August Fox News/Opinion Dynamics poll, more than three-quarters (76 percent) of voters viewed Powell favorably while just 13 percent saw him in an unfavorable light. A large part of Powell's appeal is his perceived bipartisanship -- a direct result of his decision to repeatedly turn down overtures to run for president in his own right. For a certain (not insubstantial) portion of the electorate, when Powell speaks, they listen. The Fox News/Opinion Dynamics poll reinforces that fact; more than one in three voters said a Powell endorsement of Obama would make them more likely to vote for the Democrat. (Hat tip to Jon "The Numbers Man" Cohen for the polling data.)

Actually I always liked Colin Powell and still do despite being a life long Democrat (I respected him greatly even as a Republican)-the class acts would be the Republicans who now are accusing him of supporting Obama just because the two share skin tones.

WOW! What exactly do you mean by your post? I think I have an idea but I am giving you the benefit of doubt. And if I am correct? That it was racial than I will not be surprised.
Lately it seems as if the GOP ticket has strayed away from issues that matter to Americans and in its stead have embraced petty scare tactics and a complete smear campaign, sad really so if I am not mistaken by your intentions I will state "Just another rep grasping straws as their campaign fails"

The tragedy of Colin Powell. - By Fred Kaplan - Slate Magazine
Maybe this will help you understand better.

Truth is Colin Powell is a fine man, quick to say what is needed in the white house and boned up on his foreign policy which he attempted to school Wubya on, but you cannot force those unwilling to see.
He took a brunt of critisism by his own and the liberals, he was chastised and called an uncle tom and so forth yet he believed in the rep party.
He was burned what is difficult to understand?
I completely agree with him, McCain has served in the senate for over 26 years yet he is so out of touch with reality that he cannot relate to the middle income or the lower income let alone those concerned with the way this country is going. McCain Critisizes Obama and makes a attack on his lack of experience any chance he gets yet he has taken absolutely no culpability for his actions in the senate let alone the reason he cannot devise or deliver a concise plan for Health or the economy?
He sounded like a baby whose lollipop was taken away from him in the last debate?
He proposed a spending freeze? Yet he proposed vouchers as a solution for education? Where is this money supposed to come from? By cutting necassary programs? He could not elaborate which programs he would cut. His healthcare program? Was idiotic!
A 5000.00 credit or stipend? And he investigated, the average plan costs 5800.00? I want to know what world he lives in because I want ths plan!
This is the cheapest plan covering the bare essentials, i.e. Preventative care! And he proposed that people utilize CHC'S? (Community Healthcare centers?) How can this be when he proposed a spending freeze?
Right now in CA this spending freeze is in effect and people by the thousands are being turned away or have to make appts months in advance due to lack of employees, since this program is state run and there is a spendin freeze that means CHC'S are working with minimal resources! And this is a man who has been in the senate for over 20+ years? Again the sentence that comes to mind is "So out of touch with reality"
Powell? nail on head! Palin? She is a boob a puppet with a agenda that does not invlove the american public, the lasy cannot even put together a cohesive sentence or answer unless it has been rehearsed and even this is twice removed at best! Oh sure she is great when it comes down to talking down to the american people and using utter lies as her way to gain the vote of rural america who fall for these lies due to xenophobia and the unwillingness to listen and find the facts!
uggggggggggggggggggggg

The way I see it Obama will probably win. With him and a Dem congress let's see what they do.They may be smart and do not do things to PO 50% to 70% of America because thay want to remain in power or they could just go for broke and impose laws and legislation to the delight of their liberal hearts and not worry about the future consequences of being voted out latter.Another words a repeat of 94 where the Repubs took congress to counteract Clinton and the Dem congress that ran amoke with liberal policies for 2 years.

But while McCain may be a little better to Republicans to swallow fact is he has a history of voting against Republicans and given they BOTH voted for the bailout and will be beholden to their political parties more than the Constitution I won't be voting for either.

For the first time ever I didn't even bother watching the debates because I already know neither have my vote and the rallying right now is the same yadda yadda that elections always bring.

Since I have been on these boards one posts still haunts me, and this poster "Wisteria" made a valid point, he/she felt that the rep party should win for effect. After it took 8 years for the rep party to deconstruct this country the way it is today? Socialism? We do not need BO to give us this wallstreet gave us this and so did McCains deregulation on wallstreet! Perfect i.e again!
BO will be vlamed if he cannot whip this country into shape within 2 years yet we all fail to realize that it took wubya and his run of the mill idiots that stuck with his ignorant ass to run this country into the grand Texas style!
