This morning in an interview with Matt Lauer, Bill Clinton admitted that the Bill signed during his administration -- regarding mortgages to lower income families -- was the real beginning of our current mortgage crisis.
Of course, he said "it was much safer at the time..."
Yes, the bill he signed that was created by the Republican-controlled legislature. And we have had Republican-controlled legislature for 6 of the 8 years Bush has sat on his thrown. Plently of time for the Republicans to reverse this position if they had cared.
Sure he signed the bill....then the shady lenders and investments firms on wall street all ran with it. Investment firms started banking on that money, lenders got greedy and it all fell to s**t. They had 8 years to do something about it after the fact. Glad to see people waited until the 11th hour to start working on a solution.

I'd really like to research that. Do you happen to know the name (and number) of the bill in question?

No I don't, but in 1994 the Republicans became the majority party in both the House and the Senate. This continued through Clinton's administration and into W's.
It doesn't really matter who got the bill signed. It was the lack of oversight that followed and no one acting quickly to nip it in the butt before it got out of hand. It was still a good bill to pass. If they regulated they could have put the brakes of those trying to take advantage of the system.
