Before you get ripped for posting a link to Kos, "a liberal rag," I'll add a link to a Washington Post op-ed. linwood holton to_campaign_for obama

It's heartening to learn there are honorable republicans who are willing to stand up to the hijacking of their party.

I've always admired and even met Linwood Holton, but most people realize that there is a conflict of interest because he is Democratic Governor Tim Kaine's father-in-law. They also recognize the closeness of the relationship between Gov. Kaine and Obama. So to most people, this won't be any big news, just as it was no surprise when Gov. Holton supported Kaine.

I'm sure he'll campaign through the southwest part of the state where Obama isn't expected to do well, but I really don't think a former governor who served 35 years ago, and is Gov. Kaine's father-in-law, is going to cause a lot of people to change their minds or draw a lot of undecided voters to his speeches.

Abe Lincoln would endorse Obama if he were alive.

Fact.

10,000 votes might make a big difference in Virginia, supposedly a "toss up" state in this presidential election.

When did Obama pass away? I agree that he is dead, politically and intellectually.

Someone needs a refresher course on sentence structure.

How can it be a "fact" that Lincoln would vote for either candidate when he's dead? I thought Hillary Clinton would be the democratic nominee, so ya never know.

I just thought I'd post this before a Republican does. LOL

Edit: Too late!

I am glad you can predict endorsements from presidents that have been dead for around 150 years. I could use you in vegas to make some scratch if you are that good at predictions.

Virginia is not that surprising really. Obama's base of support is young college-educated white professionals, and there are loads of them in Northern Virginia. It's yuppie central. Arlington County went for Kerry by 68% in 2004 and I won't be surprised if Obama breaks 70% come November. Ditto for Alexandria (went for Kerry by 67%).

And around 1/4 of all Virginians live in the DC metro area. And VA has had 2 Dem governors in a row and is about to have 2 Democratic senators.

I'm not saying Obama will win in Virginia in the end, but it's important to note it's rapidly changing demographics, which benefit Obama.
