Didnt even have the decency to show up for the vote.

So women should just quit their jobs and go apply somewhere else? What does he propose women do instead of taking the proper legal course?

His response doesnt really say much,
Quote:
“They need the education and training, particularly since more and more women are heads of their households, as much or more than anybody else,” McCain said. “And it’s hard for them to leave their families when they don’t have somebody to take care of them.
He's missing the point. A woman can ge a PhD and still make less than a Man with a PhD. What then?

Women, on average, don't commit as much as men. That's why they don't get paid "equally".

The more opportunity to sue you give, the less willing entreprenuers will be to start businesses. It's an example of how government regulation impedes business... But don't worry, if you want to sue people for paying less for an employee who takes off a half-day a week to pick up the kids, that job will be filled over in India or China.

Please show figures, facts, data that prove women don't "commit" as much as men. Since when do businesses have a "commit-o-meter"...to measure in advance who commits more?????

The same old argument that republicans use to keep down any group they don't deem worthy (women, ethnic groups, the poor, etc.)

If the businesses don't discriminate in the first place there would be no lawsuits

Women have caused out sourcing!!!! LOLOLOLOL! Yup, women as the whipping boys...how convenient !

The Republicans are keeping up their sexist ways....total disrespect for women....with their presidential candidate leading the "hate pack".

REPEAT AFTER ME:

If the businesses don't discriminate in the first place there would be no lawsuits

Actually, you are both right. I am a labor economist, and hundreds of papers have been written on this subject (including one of my own). Much of the wage gap between women and men is due to the fact that women do not commit to their job as much as men do (don't go for on the job training, don't work overtime, are more likely to leave, etc). Women are also different from men in other ways that matter for pay, they often have less education, take fewer math classes, etc. These things make up a large portion of the gender wage gap. But there is always some portion that no one can explain. So far, no one has done better than to call this part "discrimination."

Personal experience. I should have specified that.

Read "The Wealth of Nations" by Smith. He gives an excellent account of the effect of legislation, etc. on business.

It's not that anyone, IMO, is using an argument to keep anyone down. It's an argument that the more burdensome conducting business is, the less business there will be.

Kind of like if the Duke boys didn't rape the strippers, Nifong wouldn't have pressed charges against them?

I've found, dealing with courts, people do launch false accusations for personal gain.

There aren't 56 Republicans in the Senate so it appears some Democrats didn't like this bill either.
