Was the republican crossover to the democrat party helpful in getting Penn to go with Hillary? Seems I remember something about Rush Limburger on Fox radio asking that those who could – should in an effort to get Hillary on the ticket.

Dunno. Does it really matter? I'm sure if crossdressers, I mean crossovers, were allowed, many voted for Obama as well.

Those accusations always seem to fly around, but I have yet to see any compelling evidence that they ever amounted to a statistically significant amount of people swaying election election results in a direction they wouldn't have gone already even if they hadn't voted.

Can GOP Voters Spoil the Dem Race? - TIME

I don't know, seems they might have had an effect on the outcome.

Counties mentioned as crossovers;
Perry
Adams
Cumberland
Bucks
Montgomery
Berks

Election Center 2008: Primary Results by County - Elections & Politics news from CNN.com

Seems Hill&Bill did ok in these areas.

Hillary seemed to have gotten higher white male vote

Not winning Montgomery by a large margin really gave Hillary her 9+ margin

If this were true though Hillary would be in for a mass defeat in November. McCain has already started on the dishonest issue and her negative numbers. If I were a republican I would be there voting for the choice that my Republican party feels they could bet and so would the majority of you. If true then Hillary Supporters are screwed. She has a real battle ahead of her and I think time is running out for her. Another SD endorsed Barack this morning I heard that on CNN.
