Historic, but not the record.

The last President to pick up more than 3 Senate seats was JFK. He picked up 4 in 1962. Nixon picked up a couple. And then everyone else lost seats until George Bush in 2002, and he picked up 1. All other Presidents lost Senate seats during their midterms.

The House is a different deal and we don't know the final tally yet. We can see that the World Champion of Losing Seats is Obama at -63 in 2010. Looks like Trump will lose about 35 or so.

See for yourself.

Not historic at all! The amount of time and money Donald Trump spend on the campaign trail and only a Senate pickup of 3? I call that taxpayers/government waste.

Senate pickup of 2, not 3.

Officially it's only Senate pickup of 1 right now, since the Florida race hasn't been called. Although based on the current count of the Florida race, it appears the Florida seat will likely go to the R.

Trumps wins in the Senate is historic. No doubt about that. No President has done so well in the midterms in recent history.

Whoop de doo. The GOP picked up 2 seats in a chamber they already controlled.
I'm more than happy to let them have 2 extra Senate seats in exchange for the Democrats gaining control of the House.

You've got to go back to Kennedy in 1962 to see a bigger pickup for the President's party when it comes to the Senate. Otherwise, it was a Blue Wave that was not historic but substantial when it comes to the House and state races.

Then you don't understand how it works.

Picking up The House is nice, but The Senate is where justices are picked and that work will continue.

The only thing a Democrat controlled House can do is submit meaningless bills that The Senate will not consider. That's the position we Republicans were in when we submitted bill after bill and watched as Harry Reid shelved them.

The GOP did well in the Senate because they had an extremely favorable map (the reverse will be true in 2020)

In the House they had the third biggest loss since Watergate,
