The Republican National Committee has commissioned polling and focus groups to determine the boundaries of attacking a minority or female candidate, according to people involved. The secretive effort underscores the enormous risk senior GOP operatives see for a party often criticized for its insensitivity to minorities in campaigns dating back to the 1960s.
If McCain is the candidate I doubt there is much to worry about. He is an issues oriented debater.
I'm sure the republicans are aware that they have to be careful of saying anything that could even be foolishly interpreted as racist or sexist by the silly liberal pc thought police.
They'd better learn to stick to the issues rather than engaging in the tactics that we're already seeing on this board.
Please list some examples exactly on what the GOP, or Republicans in general have done on this board. Most of the Anti Clinton/Obama garbage on this board is from Democrats.
I wouldn't worry about McCain making a dumb statement, but there are a lot of folks getting on TV and speaking on the behalf of the candidates. Those folks need to stay on the issue, and focus on the opposition's weak spots.

That's what I was talking about. The Obamintons. They're destroying each other for their own candidate. The racial stuff, the sexist stuff, the Muslim crap. The GOP needs to keep this fight focused on the issues if they want to win.

I do agree with you that much of this anti-Clinton or anti-Obama garbage is by other democrats (at least ones not started by Johnny Rockets or others like him). Much of it is indeed rather ridiculous.
The Republicans do benefit from having their nominee basically almost wrapped up, and can solidify their forces right away. That is exactly the reason Mitt Romney used in his concession speech.
A lot of this anti-Clinton or anti-Obama stuff should clear up a bit after the Texas and Ohio primaries, and still give the Democrats enough time to consolidate and look towards the General Election and the Republicans.
As for the original topic, I guess it is a good gesture, but I don't see the GOP needing to worry too much about a backlash if McCain is indeed their candidate.
Unless, of course, they are checking the boundaries to find out what they can get away with.
