What a great idea! Iraq is such a great place, why don't we stay for another 100 years? At least that is what McCain is now saying!
I'm not sure how he is able to say "As long as Americans are not being injured or harmed." Uhh... I guess he doesn't know that 3,908 American soldiers have already lost their lives in Iraq, and 28,773 have been injured.
Just look at the expressions on everyone's face as he talks. Many of them look dumbfounded! My jaw would drop too if I really just heard someone basically encourage a 100-year extension of the Iraq war.
"I hope it will be fine with you if we maintain a presence in a very volatile part of the world." -- John McCain 1.3.2008
volatile -tending or threatening to break out into open violence; explosive
Not a note for or against McCain, but for you who are keeping count of American's lost in Iraq, which place is more dangerous for our youth (19-25) the streets of Baghdad or the streets of Philly?
I assure you that more young men and women from Philidelphia have been killed and injured in Philidelphia than those who have served from there in Iraq.
It's not like he isn't used to bad videos on YouTube. How about the video in which a supporter asked "How do we beat the b*tch?" in reference to Hillary Clinton.

Even more reasons to bring the troops home. We need them here to protect Americans.

We had 894 US soldiers killed in Iraq (don't forget about the THOUSANDS injured), compared to less than 400 homocides (and this includes people of ALL ages) in the Philadelphia metro in 2007. This is one reason Dr. Paul wants to bring the troops home. Let's save the money we are spending in Iraq to fix the problems we have here at home.
And the number of American's killed in Iraq isn't near as many as the 1,139,602 Iraqis killed (mostly civilians) due to the war. We can't afford the war as is, how could anyone possibly plan on staying for another 100 years? How about asking our troops how they feel about a hundred year extension? How do you think they would feel with somebody comparing them risking their lives in Iraq to walking down a street in Philadelphia?
And as a side note Baghdad has a murder rate that is 13.2 times higher than Philadelphia.
Few people seem to care about inner city minorities.

When the House and the Senate pass similar but not identical bills, they create a conference committee to work out the differences. When they both passed amendments to the "emergency supplemental" spending bill stipulating that none of the money could be used to build permanent bases in Iraq, the conference committee, behind closed doors this week, resolved that non-difference by deleting it.
This would appear to be a blatant violation of the rules of Congress and an unconstitutional voiding of the will of the people as expressed by their Representatives and Senators. But it can't appear that way to a people that knows nothing about it. And it does not appear that way at all to the journalists who inform the public of its government's doings. Even the minority members of the conference committee and the leaders of the minority party in Congress seem entirely comfortable with this course of events, although Congresswoman Barbara Lee has denounced the Republicans for it.
