Normally, when you're part of a political campaign, you keep a stiff upper lip and soldier on, even when things look grim. You make copious notes for the tell-all interviews and books, of course, but you keep your dissatisfaction under your hat - who knows, the opponent just might make an irrecoverable fumble, and you sure don't want to have a reputation for disloyalty when it's time to reward the faithful...

Then there's the Romney campaign. Interesting reading from off-the-record interviews to be found here:

Inside the campaign: How Mitt Romney stumbled - Mike Allen and Jim VandeHei - POLITICO.com

Wonder how come there was no shout-out to the troops? Well, apparently Romney's speech was a last-minute hack, put together in great haste. There was a plan for a telecast of Romney addressing the American Legion, it fell through due to Isaac, and - nobody thought of a remedy.

Eastwood's skit? Added a few weeks prior and not vetted in any way.

Apparently, everybody is pointing fingers at the senior strategist - who appears to be a bit of an eccentric artist type, a style that clashes with the corporate-style planners populating the rest of the campaign.

Have a look, it's fascinating stuff.

Interesting article. So much for Romney's good business decisions.

Mitt Romney, for the most part, writes his own speeches and for the most part, he wrote this one. This article is pure bs...as usual. Also, Romney is doing great so the folks in his campaign should be feeling pretty good right about now.

The article is BS because you deem it so? As for the speech, it was a total failure as to what the most important speech in a candidates candidacy is supposed to accomplish, so giving Romney credit for it, is not exactly a credit that he might care to own.

He is leading Obama by 2 points in a 3 day tracking poll of key swing states only. This hype that he is done is stupid and not working. People in this country are not as stupid as Obama thinks. The ones supporting Obama are, but you always have those to contend with...lol.

Politico is not known for being ethical. His speech was very well received by those who matter.

Been quite fun watching Team Amateur (a.k.a. Team $Romney) implode

Can't wait to see Swiss Mitt flopping around on that debate stage...
