That may be true for Houston. But the Dallas-Fort area is much less dependent on the oil and gas business than the Houston area.
Texas in general suffers less for national recessions than other states. It has a diverse economy and for the past 20 years cities have been fueled by a population boom that keeps local economies from slumping significantly.
