Let's say one of these two wins the GOP Nomination for President.
We know in addition to Independents being frustrated with Obama and the Democrats, one of the biggest problems in the 2010 Elections for the the Democrats was that their party were very disappointed with the lack of change, so alot of them stayed home while the right was very energized.
If Bachmann or Palin got the nomination, what are the chances the Democrats make gains in Congress in 2012? Regardless of the disappointment for Obama and the Democrats, I imagine that the thought of one of these two* would bring out the liberals, center leftists and Independents who stayed at home in 2010. The Independents aren't as predictable, but the Democrats, while out at the polls, would more than likely vote for their parties candidates.
(*Or imagine a Palin/Bachmann ticket. That would bring them out for sure.)
Bachmann/Palin in any sort of combination would definitely bring out the Independents in 2012, to vote again for Obama. Independents are highly suspicious of Palin/Bachmann or anything that appears extreme. They may be frustrated by Obama/Democrats, but not that frustrated.
One thing you have to understand about voter behavior is that even if a voter disapproves of a candidate/elected official, they may disapprove even more to the other guy. So they vote to keep what they perceive to be the lesser of two evils.

BAchmann and Palin would never be on the same ticket anymore than Obama and Hillary.

They have no more chance of beating the great President Obama than a ticket consisting of the Pillsbury Doughboy and Yosemite Sam. Keep dreaming...
