These boards are excellent for planning vacations! Last summer, I planned a 2 week east coast roadtrip with my son on here. We started in North Carolina and drove up to Boston (with many diversions and stops inbetween) to see colleges. I learned so much about the different areas, where to stay, where to avoid, even where to eat! Thanks to our Garmin and these boards our trip was a great success

SoCalMomma......well the Houston Metroplex is HUGE. Interstate-10 goes all the way thru the heart of the city. There are numerous Stack Interchanges and when i've been thru on weekdays that's when it's worst so if you can hit in the weekends it's better. West of Houston is not so bad as the suburbs go about 30 miles or soish but on its east it seems like its constant city all the way to the Texas/Louisiana border with constant high traffic volume.

That being said just make sure your tank of gasoline is full before you enter the Metroplex and take it easy and you'll be fine. You never have to leave I-10 as it's straight West to East/East to West thru there.

6/3

I know I am late in this conversation, but I would suggest hotels inside of El Paso along the North Mesa or Sunland Park street exits off of I-10. These areas have Sunland Park mall, a new outlet mall (Outlet Shoppes at El Paso), and other stores of all kinds located close by and really close to I-10 so you can't get lost... Sunland Park racetrack/casino is also close by. If you feel like doing some miniature golf for recreation , then Adventure Zone and Bob O's fun centers are also located just a short distance away. There are of plenty of good restaurants in the area as well.

If you are worried about traffic in the area..it gets a little bad..but believe me after having lived in Los Angeles for almost 10 years..El Paso's traffic (even when its really bad) is nothing compared to how bad it gets in parts of Southern California. I often laugh at people when they complain about traffic here, not that I'm being mean..just that I know what "real" traffic is like.
