There are a lot of reasons why El Paso might be right for you.

There are a lot of reasons why El Paso might be wrong for you.

El Paso is extremely safe city. I am not sure why you bring that up. Listening to rumors I assume?

It all depends. It's hot and dry here, not very green. Lots of dust -- but if you like hot and dry, it's a great climate. No lakes, few trees, no forests within 100 miles.

The homicide rate is low but property crime rates are high. Lots of graffitti, it seems certain crimes like 7-11 robberies are increasing, I know someone who claims that someone tried to do a carjacking while she was stopped at a red light on her way to work.

In my opinion the people are average friendly. Sometimes you run into very helpful and friendly people, other times you find rather rude people. You see more and more road rage as the traffic is becoming terrible and congestion is terrible. They are building like crazy here -- if it excites you to see housing subdivisions going up everywhere overnight and the empty spaces quickly being filled, more damage to the mountain as they rip apart to build their superhighways through it, it's probably more exciting here than ever.

For those who liked it when it was a quiet friendly town with various neighborhoods with their own feel, it was more recommendable in the past. El Paso is becoming a very large and crowded city with loads of sprawl, less and less open space. No longer can you look at the night sky and see a million stars and listen to the yipping of coyotes.

There is very little crime of consequence in El Paso compared to other cities of comparable size, and much, much less violent crime.

As far as the friendliness of the people I would rate El Paso very high. In fact, of the 8 places I have lived in the last 20 years, the people are far and away the friendliest.

The weather in El Paso is not as bad as many claim. The summers are very hot, but quite dry. I will take a 105 day in El Paso over an 85 degree day in Georgia any time.

All in all, I would say that El Paso is one of the best places I have lived.

Default Overall, would you recommend living in El Paso?

I see you list Del Rio as your current location. So, you're pretty familiar with West Texas dry heat/climate. I've been in El Paso for over 20 years and I like it here. The Franklin Mtns run right through town and the sun shines more than 300 days/year. For me, the biggest downside is high property taxes, but that's pretty common throughout Texas. Crime isn't the problem most assume it would be with the violence next door in Juarez.

When I visited the one time, I enjoyed my stay. I still not live there, though, but just because of the heat and dryness. It's already warm enough here.

Thank you to all for your postings. I always heard El Paso in years past was a good place to live and had many positives, but am, years later seriously considering moving there. I guess hearing about the crime in Ciudad Juarez made me wonder. Are the winters bad? I love the heat regardless of humidity/temp. Thanks again.

The crime in Juarez is not really a factor. Those killings are targetted, if you aren't involved with cartels, you're not going to be a victim of the cartels. Cartel members don't just go around randomly killing people. Also cartel members moving to the USA are just as likely to live in other cities like Dallas or San Antonio or Miami as they are likely to live here.

It may get worse in the future because so much of Juarez has moved over here but for now no one living here really thinks or cares much about what takes place in Juarez, it used to be our sister city but we disowned her. The homicide rate of Juarez has dropped significantly.

The winters here aren't bad, you might feel you need a heater for about 2 months because nights get under 30 degrees -- it's not like Florida -- we have something of seasons here.

It all depends on what you like. It's not the moderate-size city with nice traffic and quick commutes like it once was.
