How do you determine merit? How much he saves for taxpayers because that is his top priority... are you willing to live with that... didn't think so...

How do you determine merit pay for teachers--test scores? Are you willing to live with that knowing that there are kids that will circle every B on the test and then take a nap...

I think merit pay for legislators would be far more effective. The governor, like all executive branches, has far less control over education than the legislative branch.

And I'm all for it--merit pay for everyone.

Maybe for how many new businesses he attracts to the state that also bring new jobs to the state. Add to that they must continue to hire at that rate year after year - just like teachers/school districts - they must have ALL students succeed. All must be proficient.!!!

See how slippery the slope a merit pay system gets when applied to other public servant jobs? Why should teachers, with all the diversity and variables within their field, have to adopt such a one-size-fits-all reward system?
