NEW YORK -- Foreign diplomats get great parking spots, but their home countries can't escape the U.S. tax man.

A federal judge has ordered the governments of India, Mongolia and the Philippines to pony up $57.6 million in real estate taxes in a case that reached the U.S. Supreme Court.

These diplomats are the number one abusers of their privilege as a diplomat. I can't remember where I saw it, I think maybe one of the NY papers, but they do a top ten list of the worst scofflaw offenders for parking tickets, or what not. Not the diplomat but the country. There is never a surprise when you see the countries. They were even going to go as far as to impound cars, etc. Its a sticky situation due to "diplomatic immunity". Good to see them going after them. Fat chance collecting though IMO.

As I understand it the diplomats have immunity and cannot be sued or prosecuted BUT the vehicles have no such immunity and can be impounded.
