Mine is through my husband's work. For the two of us, we pay somewhere around $250/month for really really good insurance, so we are really lucky.
When we both had jobs without insurance, we were paying about $250 (several years ago, so I'm sure that would be higher now) for insurance with a $5000 deductible that we never met. My parents, who are both self employed, pay around $800/month for the same catastrophic only insurance (after shopping around...they were $1200/month before) as my dad is a bit accident prone and has had several claims, and mom had a hip replaced.
That's insane! I don't make that in a year but then I don't live in NY either. This can't be sustainable! My husband's doctor charges $200 for an office visit. When you're paying that much for a routine office visit sooner or later the bottom is going to drop.

family coverage is a national average of 15k when not subsidized by the employer. it is not just ny. those of you who only pay a portion of it through your work place have no idea what it really cost.
Through an employer, 700/month for 70/30 coverage with a 3,00 deductible.
I was spoiled at my old job where it was paid by my employer and we have 80/20 coverage, $10.00 dr office co-pays and a 500.00 deductible!
