I think the disconnect here is your use of the word "serious" in reference to your sources.

You read it here first! $1000-a-barrel crude! - The Bing Blog (http://stanleybing.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2008/05/21/you-read-it-here-first-1000-a-barrel-crude/ - broken link)
LoL, really?

The guy wrote an opinion piece making an outlandish prediction to mock those who made $200 a barrel predictions...it even states that pretty clearly.

"I say this with absolutely as much information at hand as the pundits who are now making headlines for themselves by their soggy $200 predictions. Nobody knows what's going to happen. So I'm going to not know what's happening at an even more dramatic level." (emphasis mine)

People who believed that oil was going to sky rocket to unheard prices and destroy civilization were the target of his mocking. You posted a piece that mocks outlandish predictions and ideas about oil, as backup to why you think you are right about your outlandish doomsday predictions about oil. You can see how well this serious article was received by the first sentence of the first comment posted as well "Time for the crazies to come out onto the Bing Blog comment board!"

I can't believe anyone can post something like this and still be bright enough to survive the process of tying their shoes in the morning.

ARE YOU DENSE? Did you even read that article, or did you just see $1000 OIL!!!1!1! and start running around like a chicken with its head cut off? It's clearly satire.

Oil will likely end the year very low ($50/bbl) but that will be accompanied by Dow 5000 and an economic collapse that makes September 2008 look like the good ole' days. All we can do is prepare. There is little to be hopeful for about our economy.

$7 gas is a certainty this summer and and that will lead to a complete halt of all consumer spending and skyrocketing foreclosures.

Oil is currently trading at $105.79 and has been dropping steadily for the past few days and in my opinion and the opinion of everyone with their eyes open is it will continue to drop in the coming weeks and months. Your predictions of $200 by 4th of July are ludicrous to say the least. If gas prices continue to increase drivers will again cut back like they did in 2008 and oil prices will fall and we'll be looking at $2.00 a gallon again just like we did in 2009.

The DOW has also grown steadily since the early part of 2009 so your predictions of 5000 and a complete economic collapse are again ludicrous and completely unfounded. Currently 12,561

I hate to burst your end of the world dooms day bubble but it's not going to happen. The market is not going to drop to 5000. Oil is not going to get to $200 a barrel, gas will not get to $7 a gallon any time soon and the economy is not going to collapse.

You can prepare all you like but what you need to understand is it is YOU and others like YOU that a causing the economic problems. First by spreading fear with unfounded lies and predictions about the end of the world as we know it. Second by pinching all you pennies and tucking them away in you mattress or under you bed because you feel the government is out to get you. The economy is driven by people's spending and if you don't spend then items aren't made, items aren't made people get laid off, people get laid off they don't buy goods so get out there and buy something and quit crying about how the government isn't giving you a hand out.

The way the government could help us is by stopping all of the free hand outs. Cut off Public aid and force people among us to get a job. Job are out there if you are willing to work...

People need to take responsibility for themselves. We have become a society of cry babies. You lose a couple of thousand of your 401K, Gas gets to $5 a gallon, milk is $ a gallon.. Big frickn deal.. Do something about it and quit frickin whining...

By the way.. In the time it's taken me to write this. Oil has dropped again to $105.36

As others have pointed out before, I serious doubt those constantly predicting end of days are doing anything to prepare for it. They are just reading blogs that cater to their mindset and regurgitating here.

There was an article in The Onion recently about the Blue Angels Jet Team holding open tryouts. If you decide to go can we carpool together to save on gas?

I'm going to start my own blog so I can reference it here in support of my own theories. Let's see....type type type....Jennifer Love Hewitt wants to hang out topless at my house.....the earth will end on June 3rd due to severe constipation.....gas will be $3.45 a gallon somewhere, sometime and Family Guy will be canceled because it's just stopped being funny.

Oil down to $102.5, was at $101 a few minutes ago.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that bchris will have egg on his face yet again come July 4th.
