Just got a puppy alsation for my father inlaw.
Shes a beautiful little girl! Really sweet and full of beans...
but i was wondering if something was norm or not (because i cant rememeber by puppy doing the same).
When this puppy is sleepin (and only happens when shes sleepin) seems to breath quite fast, she takes alot of little breaths... I cant hear her breathing heavy, but i can see her little chest going ten to the dozen! Is this normal for puppies?! I cant remember baker being like that as a puppy....
puppy could be dreaming. but, could be allergies. the first night I had my current dog, I noticed "fast" breathing. I said to myself, "self that is odd, never saw that before". later the allergies materialized in full. couldn't keep weight on, wouldn't eat well, loose bowels, red areas around nose, film on eyes, scratching (too much). after a few months, his back hair started falling out leaving small bald spots. tried many different foods, bought bunch of books, many vet trips, brought in specialists, had blood drawn and serum created to combat specific strong allergy (in addition there were 1/2 dozen small ones) and he did ok, until the first "full" dose application and the area around his nose tripled in size in a matter of minutes. the shots stopped. he is doing much much better now. why? well, I feed him chicken breast and brown rice. took many months for toxins to clear out, but, as I said he is much better. also, I sometimes (during flare ups) I treat him with a drug called hydroxyzine. it works! did I mention this all cost a ton of money? good luck, I hope your puppy was just dreaming : )

This might be worth a vet visit or at least a call. Puppies do breathe faster than adult dogs, but the respiratory rate should be slower when she's asleep than when she's awake.
Sounds like she's in active REM sleep dreaming about chasing butterflies or something. The other thing I thought of is, is it too warm where she's sleeping? Could she be trying to cool off by panting in her sleep because it's too warm?

It pains me to be the bearer of bad news, but I think you have a puppy.
My Edison does this behavior too, he's 10 months old going on 5 years old! Freaked me out at first, then I called his name and he woke up and was annoyed I did so. Yeah, he's ok.
ah thats ok! I fink it might be a bit warm in our house, because when she was having a few power naps outside i noticed her breathing wasnt so rapid! So feel bit more relieved now!
Yer baker tends to do the whole "cathing a squirrel" routine in her sleep complete with barking and legs in the air!
I have a puppy named Mister. He gets restless at night and he wakes up panting with his mouth open breathing really fast. I need to know if this is normal in a puppy. I'm really concerned about this he's such a sweet boy. I would hate for something to be seriously wrong with him. I do not have the money to take him to the vet immediately, and I just don't know what it could be. could someone please give me some advice, or maybe a diagnosis for what it might be?
