Some vets say that dogs sensory abilities is the nose- but what about tastebuds? My dogs seem to appreciate cheese (cheddar and Brie) they seem able to differentiate. (Yes, they are spoiled)
For example my dog Sunny likes certain types of crackers; it seems they almost have the same discriminatory tastes as humans!
I have had dogs that are picky on foods so I would say that this is somewhat true. Try 2 items 1 human grade 1 pet grade see which they eat first but the smell of it may also have some bearing on it also.

Has anyone else noticed this?

LOL...I think you are absolutely right, and THAT'S why, my dogs won't eat dogfood, but only what I COOK!!!! LOL
Huh, if I wouldn't know any better, I would say I am dealing with humans here....LOL ...I swear!
I have wondered this, too. I'm betting more on smell because they always have to sniff it good first And just let a pizza pie come through the front door!! Will not even taste something if they turn away after a good sniff.

In NY my dog knew when food was delivered- pizza-man and Chinese-food delivery-
Guess what happend (as we are talking about tastebuds, picky eaters and all.... )
Bought 2 HUGE, awesome, choice grade, top sirloin streaks, 1 1/4 inch thick, grabing a beer, go and fire up the grill.....
just to come back to 4 glowing eyes, and 1 nice burp in my face......LOL
$15 dollars in my pups belly....but, at least they left me ONE!!!!!!
Do my pups have taste.....after this?

Reason: typo
I'm torn on this factor because I have seen the other things that dogs will eat. If they do have the same taste buds as we do then I just don't see how they eat their own fecies and regergatation. But maybe I'm wrong. I don't see how cannibilism is possible either.
