Sad to say but compared to photos I've seen of other mills this one is not as bad as many out there.
Hopefully the number of mills will decrease as more and more of the public learn of their horrors and opt to adopt rather than buy from unscrupulous breeders. Can't happen soon enough for me.
I emailed this image to our local pet shop that sells USDA puppies. I also emailed it to the local radio show host that advertises for this pet shop emphasizing in the ads that all puppies sold there are from USDA licensed sources. Pet shops that tout this USDA crap truly believe that the general public is stupid. And then some people prove them right by buying puppies from pet stores.
Before I knew anything about puppie mills, I bought a dog from a pet store in 1999. I was heart broken when I found out about puppie mills soon after buying her. And she had so many health issues in her life. Surprisingly, she made it to age 12.5, but that's about 3 years younger than her breed normally lives to. And I spent thousands upon thousands of dollars on her health care over the years. I loved her more than anything, miss her every day, and I wouldn't "undo" having her as she had a very unique personality and special bond with me, but puppie mills need to all be shut down! My dog and my bank account suffered greatly due to an ignorant person running a puppy mill.
There is an HSUS report on some of the worst ones, listed by state. It's a PDF so apparently can't create a link to it but you can find via their website it if you are interested.
I see that "Jr." Horton, the owner of a mill near me who got busted in 2007 has now moved on to Ohio after a second conviction in VA. under tougher laws that came about in part as a result of his mill.
