My daughter in-law is getting a Standard Poodle, don't know what age since she is going through a rescue. I have groomed a few and they seem to be very nice dogs and very intelligent but thats about all I know. Who here has one and what can you tell me about the breed?

i LOVE standards...there on my "possibly one day" list...

as a whole, an incredibly fast learning breed (i wouldnt call them "super smart" like mos call them. because i feel ALL dogs are smart, i just think different dogs learn and train differently, poodles are "super smart" only because they are incredibly eager to please and generally VERY easy to train with even the most simplistic methods)

i have noticed however poodles do tend to take a while to warm up to strangers and can be a little stanfoffish/aloof.

Me too! I haven't met a ton of them but the ones I know are great dogs. They are prone to an endocrine problem called Addison's disease so it would be a good idea for your daughter-in-law to become familiar with the signs.

Don't have one or know one but I LOVE that she is getting it from a rescue. Three cheers for her!

Her future dog is a lucky girl/boy.

They did not get a S P, they ended up getting this little girl. Her name is Violet and she is about 5 months.

Standards are amazing. They are a big dog but light as a feather on their feet. They defy the laws of physics!
