On the one hand, I'm very skeptical of excessive government involevment. On the other, there are so many dogs up for adoption and my family is grappling with the temperament of a puppy-mill dog.

Reason: type-o
I hope this passes,I live here and there are alot of supporters. It's time to shut these torture factories down. There are no mills in Suffolk County but lets face it,every single puppy in these pet stores come from puppy mills. At my shelter we get so many mill dogs.We know theyre from mills as their microchips always go back to a pet store, and it's never registered in the owners name. There was a pet store right by the shelter,a three minute drive,on Main st.We once had the police call us to come pick up 2 golden retriever puppies that were left outside the back of the store,in a crate, overnight. The owner of the store of course came to the shelter to claim them, total scumbag. That store got closed down because of constant complaints, but they moved a town over. Its time people got more serious about animal abuse. It needs to stop.Especially the mills...there is no reason to buy a dog from a store. There are way too many homeless animals in shelters and rescues. There are so many breed specific rescues,I always encourage people to check other shelters and rescues before going to a reputable breeder. We get in all kinds of dogs from all ages. And if we don't have a certain breed theres usually another shelter or rescue that does.
Im just glad something like this is being proposed. Its about time.Hopefully Nassau follows.
