You don't have to have any sort of digestive/kidney/whatever problem. Water retention is real, and if you go solely by scale weight then sure, you can "gain" 10-15 lbs. It's really simple, actually. You overconsume salt or sugar/simple carbs. You retain water. (Both make me retain water to the extreme) You keep on eating such foods over the course of a day/days. You drink. You hold on to all of that water. And yeah, you can be literally full of crap. Ever notice that once you return to cleaner eating patterns, you're peeing and pooping a lot and your weight goes down? That's not to say that there isn't fat gain, because there probably is but that's probably a handful of pounds, if that. For people obsessed with scale weight though, it doesn't matter if it's fat, water, or a combination of the above. For fitness oriented people, it's body composition that one pays attention to. case in point, I've been 160, my waist was still below a 29". After a vacation bender, I've been 156, with a waist over 29". I try and pay attention to INCHES, not scale weight, though innately I don't like my scale weight to go up either but I don't get bent out of shape over weighing more because I can kind of understand how my body works.
