Just a couple of words of caution from an experienced controlled carber: eating processed meats like bacon over the long run isn't good for you due to the nitrates (linked to colon cancer) and artificial sweeteners can slow your weight loss. I drink Le Croix citrus flavored mineral water or plain water instead. You'll be doing yourself a favor if you can wean yourself off of sweet foods and drinks altogether. It's also better for you to use butter instead of cooking oils like Pam.
Yup, absolutely true. Processed meats are practically a staple in the beginning, until you get used to eating so differently, but they should be reduced after a few weeks.
We're working on eating up a turkey I roasted the other day. Thinking turkey salad for tomorrow.
Cava - I appreciate your suggestions but I believe whatever gets you through the process, and shows results, is a very personal choice. We all have our own demons, biology, triggers, downfalls, victories. If bacon causes colon cancer it should be removed from store shelves immediately!
If I am never to have a cool glass of lemonade on a summer's day again in my life, then shoot me now!

Not much of a problem having a glass of lemonade as long as it's made from fresh lemons and you don't add any sweeteners. Not too many folks like it that way however.
Seriously though, if you can cut out all artificial and processed foods and stick to making everything from fresh ingredients, you're better off. Roasting your own turkey breast for your lettuce wrap sandwiches is a much better way to go than buying the sliced stuff out of the deli case that's been preserved with chemicals including nitrates. Also be sure to eat more fresh vegetables, although frozen are okay too. I usually sautee some zucchini and onion in the morning (in butter of course) to have with my eggs.

Let's be positive, shall we?
If the ONLY thing you're caring about is losing weight, then feel free to join the "fad diet of the month" club.
If you want to get fit and healthy, and enjoy weight loss as a side effect of getting fit and healthy rather than the solo, exclusive, singular, myopic goal in your dietary life, then you won't WANT to eat bacon, and you will WANT to avoid too much sugar and any artificial sweeteners at all.
It is a personal choice, absolutely. And bacon doesn't cause colon cancer. However, bacon contains nitrites and nitrates, which are unhealthy for you, and so eating it *regularly* is unhealthy for you. It's simple logic and common sense.
Sort of like, alcohol can destroy your liver. So drinking a bottle of rum every day for three months is not healthy for you. Drinking a couple of shots on Friday night is not.
One of the many things that convinced me to get into Low Carbing. But, he doesnt have a diet plan, dont look at it like that. If you look at this as a diet, its just something you'll be doing for a little while until you get down to where you want to be. This should be a life changing way of eating from now on. I know it was for me. Fat isnt bad for me, white flour and carbs are. Prioritize your eating like this, and you should be alright IMO.
I'm down 27 lbs since the end of april simply by changing my eating habits. Much easier to do then you would ever think.

Agreed with this, going organic with meat in general is a great choice if you can afford it. Once I can I will. I now eat more paleo then anything, but I do love my dairy...
The main reason I'm anti atkins is all the artificial stuff he allows. My brain shouldnt think its eating sweet things unless it is. The hardest thing for me to break is my diet coke addiction, but I'm getting there.
But, OP, more importantly, seeing the light, and victimizing carbs is the best thing I could have done. Also, now you'll be more receptive to changing eating habits in general, and maybe finding your way to eating as organic as possible. Even if you dont, congrats, it'll really change the way you look at food

I'm down with that!
I know it's tempting for others to see this thread and want to offer advice because they view it as a fad or they've got their own strong beliefs about what works for them.
But I'm very confident about what I've learned, so I'm going to try like the dickens to not respond to posts from people who want to debate about the diet (or way of eating, whatever you want to call it) or say why they think it's a bad idea. As tempting as it is - and believe me it's VERY tempting!!

27lbs - awesome, congrats!
I'm very excited to get going and see some results like that!

He does warn in his books about the slowed weight loss issue with artificial sweeteners. I'm guessing he felt it was better to allow some of that to make the regimen more bearable to those who might otherwise not be able to go without. It is amazing how many people are addicted to sweets. I just went cold turky and now don't even miss it. I'm more of a salty/savory person I guess. The only sweet thing I eat now is fruit, which I can now consume more of in the later stages of Atkins. Anything beyond that tastes sickening now.

Nobody on here so far is criticizing your low carb approach. We're offering some tweaks that could help you turn this from a "diet of the month" to a long term and more healthful nutritional lifestyle that can keep you from consuming a bunch of bad-for-you chemicals, sabotaging your progress, giving up, or gaining it all back later.
