I live in south Warren (9 & Mound) and work in downtown Detroit. We're stuck in our house and my daughter goes to first grade this fall (she was in a private kindergarden) and I'm looking for a good school for her. We're in Fitzgerald school district and I hear it's not the best in the area. So I'm panicing because time is running out and I don't even know which school she'll be going to. Can someone help by weighing in on the local schools? I don't want to go too far north since I'm working downtown, and would be even willing to pay for private if it's a good school.

This may not be much help but some friends of mine kids went to Siersma Elementary about 8 years ago and I dropped them off and picked them up a few times and it seemed like a decent, respectable suburban school at the time. I don't really know much about it now, but if I were you I would visit each of these schools and look around and see what kind of vibe you get. I'm sure the staff and probably other parents would be more than happy to talk to you. Good luck.
