I'm looking for a quality place to take my girlfriend out for dinner on her birthday next month. We will be staying at Greektown Hotel on a Sunday night and I'm looking for a fancier place than usual. I was considering Mosaic but I am open to other suggestions!

Thanks!

For view/atmosphere you cannot beat the place at the top of the REn Cen, but the food is bad.

Andiamo's at the base of the ren cen is very nice. Pretty good food, good service, big prices.

Seldom Blues usually has great music and nice views, but the price is pretty high for mediochre to good food and service (acutally the service is often terrible).

There are several Greek places in Greek town that are upscale and very nice. You need to get away from the Casino noise though. Nothing romantic about a constant din that sounds like trash cans being rolled down a hill.

The best tasting food in town IMO is Slows. It is not fancy, just a pub atmosphere. But they have the best Barbque/smokehouse food I have ever had.

I have never been to Mosaic, so I cannot help with that.

If you do not mind a drive, the most romantic little place that I can think of is the Lord Fox in Dixborough (Near Ann Arbor). It is not as nice as it once was, but still pretty classy.

I'm not really hip to the Detroit dining scene but I'll second Slows BBQ - it's very nice, fabulous food and great atmosphere. Outdoor dining too, weather permitting.
There's one bar/restaurant someone took me to - I'm thinking near Wayne State...? Big, sort of rustic place with several separate small dining areas, nice ambiance and I think their speciality was fish. At any rate I had amazing whitefish there. Maybe someone knows where I'm talking about?

I haven't been to Mosaic myself yet, but I have family that has and they absolutely rave about the place. I've been meaning to try it myself for some time now.

Relocated to Austin, so the BBQ is plentiful here, but I ALWAYS make it back to Slows when I head back home. Great BBQ, awesome side dishes and a very pleasant ambiance. I've never had a chance to sit out on the patio, as it's always usually freezing / snowing / ugly out.

I haven't been to Slows but I hear everyone rave about it!

Fishbones? Also in Greektown - it used to be the kickass place to go, I still like the food. It's not SUPER fancy but pretty nice? Since nobody else has mentioned it, I feel insecure saying I like it a lot.

Do you mean Traffic Jam and Snugs? Also referred to at TJ's. It's right by the Bonstellar Theatre, just off the WSU campus. They have really good food, kind of all over the place in terms of what they serve. Nice wine list. Yummy desserts. It's about a 2-3 minute drive, from the Lodge.

How about Roast at the Book Cadillac? I haven't eaten there, but have heard from a few of my friends that it is great.
