I'm curious as well. Because when I was growing up on Harper and Connor, you didn't hear gunshots everyday let alone ALL day and night. If I had to guess this would be either Warren next to 48205 neighborhood or Grosse Pointe Park bordering Mack.

I mean I'm sure on average it's fine but if you're looking for absolute confirmation of a level of security on par with a burb 20 miles away etc., I'm not sure a query on this site really counts as due diligence.
Thanks. We understand and plan on doing that, just trying to also get the perspective from those who live there and are in the community day in and day out as residents.

I live in the Woods but on the side of side of Mack near Harper Woods. I know there are some that would never choose to live on this side of Mack. We moved from a more rural exurb of Detroit. I love it here. I have friends that live right near to border of Detroit in Grosse Pointe Park and I have never heard them complain about it or concerned about their safety. They love it and have three kids in the school system. They rave about the schools. One thing that is strong is neighborhood watch. Neighbors really watch out for each other here.

I had one experience where someone was looking through cars. The neighbor called the police and they showed up and immediately arrested someone. When I spoke with the police they said the best thing you can do for safety is get a dog. I think car theft is the biggest crime in the area. Always keep your doors locked. When I lived in my exurb we had car thefts though too. I say if you choose to live near any urban area, Detroit or not, you always have a higher risk of theft. It just comes with the territory but I would still choose to live here over a more suburban/rural area.

I think the Jefferson-Chalmers neighborhood will be improving a lot over the next decade especially with their new historic designation. http://www.crainsdetroit.com/article...reasure-status

Great info! Thank you. I didn't realize Jefferson/Chalmers had been designated that. Good to know.
I love asking questions on here because I feel like we get the clearest picture from those that live there. We assumed there would be crime just like everywhere else and based on what I've been reading and looking at crime reports, the crimes there are basically the same as you get in the suburbs.
Thanks again and like Ive said before, if anyone has any more to add, please do so.

I started a thread recently asking about how things are around Grosse Pointe Woods on the west side of Mack. It looks safe, and you get homes that are much cheaper, but I was wondering about the neighborhoods surrounding Harper Woods as well as the schools that serve that area. That area still seems like a solid middle to upper middle class neighborhood, but I was wondering if the problems and crime plaguing Harper Woods are now creeping into the Grosse Pointes.
