How can the most dangerous city also be a great place to visit? This must be some mistake!! Great job DETROIT!

from the article.....

....Over the weekend, Detroit appeared among cool places to visit in two of the nation's top newspapers. The New York Times named Detroit 40th on a list of 53 places to travel in 2008 and the Washington Post spotlighted Detroit's assets in an On Exhibit feature.....

....Detroit was named "Best Sports City" by the Sporting News in August. And, on Nov. 7, Detroit was deemed one of America's top 10 "Party Cities" by Maxim.....

Yeah, I heard that on the news a few days ago. It's not a misprint.

Default Great job Detroit

I know it was not a misprint. I was being sarcastic. I just feel like someone must not be telling the truth. The most dangerous city in America certainly can't be a great place to visit. People are not going to visit somewhere they feel death is waiting for them as some people in this forum would have others believe. It's obvious that Detroit is not as bad as some reports and posters in this forum would like to portray it!!

detroit used to be ok. if people treated each other different, it could be ok again.
cities are nothin but a bunch of buildings staring at each other. neither safe nor unsafe.
our conduct makes them safe or unsafe. we have 100% control of that dont we?
its all about conduct isn't it? its not money, its not location location location
once people decide that want it to change, it will.

"the most dangerous place in America" and "best place to visit" are not on conflict. Like every city Detroit has good and bad areas. The good areas may be the best places to visit, while the bad areas may be the worst places in the country. Not many visitors go into the bad areas of Detroit.

Detroit is dangerous when you are in the neighborhoods where crime are mostly committed, but when you are in downtown it's among the safest and best places to party.

If you haven't pissed someone off (steal drugs or a girlfriend) and you're not an easy target (18yo college girl in high heels carrying a purse through Midtown), Detroit is very safe on the beaten track. I wouldn't walk down random alleys with $500 in my pocket and I wouldn't walk down a street full of laid-off auto workers if I was Asian. Otherwise, it's as safe if not safer than any major US city in the areas where the public congregates in number - i.e. Downtown and Midtown.

Not many locals do either!

Detroit is a great place to visit! There is so much to do, great museums, restaurants, bars, markets and interesting people. It's like every city in america, stay out of the ghetto and you will have a good time.
