I am having major work done on my Jeep in the 9 Mile/Warner Ave area and it's going to take a full day.

Is there anything I can walk to that would help kill some time?

Are there any decent hotels near by within a short taxi ride?

Good places to eat?

Movie theater?

Shopping malls?

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately that is pretty far from much of anything. It's an industrial area.
The closest mall which is just some outside stores like Target, Petco & Kroger is at 12 Mile & Dequindre. The closest enclosed mall is at 14 Mile & John R - Oakland Mall.
Good luck!

There's a dollar theater at 12 Mile and Dequindre (though nowadays it's more like 2.50).

There are some decent hotels by the Tech Center between 12 and 13 mile on Van Dyke. Wouldn't be much of a taxi ride. There's also a Buddy's Pizza at 13 and Van Dyke. There's really nothing in the 9 and Ryan/Dequindre area. There is what used to be Universal Mall at 12 and Dequindre. I suppose you could walk to Dequindre and take the bus. They do have a Movie Theater and a Target but that is it. If you are looking for overpriced boutique shops you won't find them in Warren. I'm not sure if it's still open but there was a bar in Center Line on Van Dyke named Teroma's that served good pizza. A little dive of a place but the pizza was good. It has been 10 years though since I last ate there. There's also a Five Guys at 12 and Mound. I love Five Guys burgers.

Thanks for all the input. I'm showing my ignorance of the area but is it safe to be waking around alone during the day?

You should be fine. 9 mile and Warner is a park and an elementary school. I used to know someone who lived there. That area is patrolled by police a lot.

This might be late advice, but....

If you're willing to take a taxi someplace, you could:

Travel 2 miles west to downtown Ferndale. It's a small walkable downtown area with restaurants and shops. It's also on the more eclectic side and the gay social hub of metro Detroit.

Travel 3 miles roughly northwest to downtown Royal Oak. It's another walkable downtown with restaurants and shops, larger than Ferndale's downtown. It is a twenty-something social hub at night.

Travel 6 miles roughly northwest to downtown Birmingham. It's the largest walkable downtown near your origination in Warren, with upscale restaurants and shops. It's the money-crowd downtown, so it will cost a little more for lunch.

Travel 10 minutes up I-75 to the Sommerset Collection in Troy. It's a large enclosed mall that has a large number of stores and a few better than average restaurants. The anchor stores are Macy's, Nordstrom's, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Neiman Marcus. The other shops include places like the Apple Store, the Microsoft Store, Crate and Barrel, Coach, Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware and other stores not usually found in the typical Detroit area mall, as well as many expected stores.

Head over to Van Dyke then sample what's there. It is a classic Mid Century strip. A little bit of this and a little bit of that. When I visit the Detroit Area I always make a point of visiting that area. In the past I've gone for a dive bar (I think it is the one mentioned above with good pizza). There also used to be a great rib sticking American restaurant (the name escapes me at the moment) in Centerline. They have the late if not all day breakfast, biscuits and gravy, you get the idea. Real food. No fluff.

Thanks for posting. I had no idea there was a previous St. Clemens church prior to the current one. (I like the looks of the former one much better!)
