Generally I am not a fan of this trendy style stuff, because it quickly becomes "dated" and then just ugly. However there is a building in Grand Rapids where they put modern industrial architecture apartments on top of a classic 1930s building and it is kind of cool. It has aged well. If they do something simlar, it might be neat. Hard to say. On the other hand, if they bungle it, at least this area is not amazing now, so it will not be a huge loss.

Are all stadiums/arenas ugly or do some cities have attractive looking stadium/arenas?

I cannot say I have paid that much attention to them other than to note their presence. However I cannot think of one that is not ugly. At least this is not as bad as the Joe and it is not eating up prime waterfront real estate.

Basement Burger Bar is awesome. We used to go all the time when we lived in Canton but now we go to the original location in downtown Farmington (actually is underground). I'm excited to check out the new one in Detroit. I haven't been there yet but I heard on the radio a few weeks ago that they had live music so I would imagine it's quite a bit larger than the other 2 locations.

Just off the top of my head, both Camden Yards in Baltimore and Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor have a certain attractive charm to them.

And Eero Saarninen's Ingalls Hockey Arena on Yale's campus is considered by some to be a work of art.
